Yooperlite Owl Carving - Specimen B
A charming and substantial hand-carved Yooperlite owl that puts on a breathtaking show under UV light! In daylight, this beautifully polished owl carving showcases the rich dark grey, charcoal, and deep earthy tones of the Yooperlite stone, with a smooth high-polish finish that highlights every feather detail, the large expressive eyes, the ear tufts, the tiny taloned feet, and the wonderfully round belly of this adorable owl form.
Under shortwave UV light, the magic truly happens — brilliant patches of fiery electric orange fluorescence burst across the chest, belly, and eye rings of the owl, creating a stunning and almost eerie glowing effect that is absolutely jaw-dropping. The sodalite inclusions throughout this piece fluoresce intensely, making this owl look like it’s lit from within.
Yooperlite is a trademarked name for sodalite-rich syenite found along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. These stones appear as ordinary grey rocks in daylight but transform into glowing, fiery orange masterpieces under UV light.
